| 2008-9 Action Plan
AMURT started with emergency humanitarian relief after the
genocide by distributing food, clothes, medicine, utensils,
drinking water filters and organizing counseling sessions for
the affected people. Afterwards it started rehabilitation
projects.
ACTIVITIES IN 2006
In 2006, AMURT worked mainly on School construction particularly
in completing Mburabuturo II Primary School located in Gikondo
(Kigali Ville). A hygiene program was started by supplying water
tanks for Kabeza Primary school (Kigali Ville), as well as
Bugarama Primary School and Nyagacyamo Primary School both in
Gitarama province. Student sponsorship program was implemented
during 2006.

Activities in 1994-2005
Education Support:
School Rehabilitation
AMURT implemented an Education Rehabilitation program, covering
5 communes of Kigali rural prefecture. A total of 28 facilities
have been rehabilitated and expanded with new construction with
funding from the UNHCR, AMURT and the Embassy of Japan, from
August 1996-2006.
1 Ayabaraya Primary School: rehabilitation of 15 classrooms and
renovation of 1 water tank.
2 Gahanga Primary School: rehabilitation of 23 classrooms and
construction of 12 latrine blocks and 1 water tank.
3 Remera Primary School: rehabilitation of 27 classrooms and
construction of 1 water tank.
4 Gahengeri Primary School: rehabilitation of 17 classrooms and
construction of 1 water tank.
5 Cyimbazi Primary School: rehabilitation of 16 classrooms and
construction of 1 water tank and 22 latrine blocks.
6 Kamabuye Primary School: rehabilitation of 16 classrooms and
10 latrine blocks.
7 Rushubi Primary School: rehabilitation of 4 classrooms and 7
latrine blocks.
8 Shyorongi Primary School: rehabilitation of 22 classrooms and
construction of 1 water tank.
9 Kanyinya Primary School: rehabilitation of 14 classrooms and
construction of 1 water tank.
10 Nzove Primary School: rehabilitation of 10 classrooms.
11 Bwendo Primary School: rehabilitation of 14 classrooms.
12 Muhondo Primary School: rehabilitation of 16 classrooms.
13 Musha Primary School: rehabilitation of 20 classrooms and
construction of 1 water tank.
SOME JOINT PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN WITH the EMBASSY OF JAPAN
14 Kinyinya Primary School located in Rubungo Commune of Kigali
Rural prefecture had been funded by GGP of US$ 73,930 on 6
March, 1997 for the reconstruction of 6 new classrooms,
rehabilitation of 11 classrooms and the construction of a water
tank in 1997.
15 Nyacyonga Alliance High School located in Rutongo Commune of
Kigali rural prefecture had been funded by GGP of US$ 88,698 on
25 February, 1998 for the construction of 10 classrooms and 16
latrine blocks in 1998. This school is located in Nyacyonga.
16 Kibimba Primary School located in Birenga Commune of Kibungo
prefecture had been funded by GGP of US$ 74,500 on 9 October,
1998 for the reconstruction of 5 new classrooms, rehabilitation
of 11 classrooms and the construction 12 latrine blocks in 1999.
17 Umutara Polytechnic located in Nyagatare Commune of Umutara
Prefecture. With a GGP fund of US$ 40,769 on 8 November, 1999
AMURT completed the rehabilitation of 12 Classrooms, 8 stores
for school materials and constructed one block of 20 bathrooms
for the students.
18 Bugarama Primary School located in Kayenzi Commune of
Gitarama Prefecture received funds from GGP of US$ 67,776 on 10
July, 2000 for the reconstruction of 8 classrooms and one block
of 12 latrines. It was also equipped with furniture that
included student desks, Teachers’ chairs and tables.
19 Nyagacyamo Primary School located in Gitarama Ville was newly
constructed with GGP fund of US$ 75,497 on 27 February, 2001.
The school building has 10 classrooms, one block of 16 latrines
and a water tank.
Nyagacyamo P. School was equipped with 150 Student desks, 13
teacher chairs, 11 T. Tables, 2 office desks and 3 shelves.
20 Kabeza Primary School located in Kanombe District of Kigali
Ville was also newly built by GGP fund of US$ 64,578 on 27
August, 2001. The school got 9 classrooms, Office, Water Tank
and Underground pit for rain water. School furniture included
150 student desks, 13 chairs, 11 tables and 2 desk offices.
21 Mburabuturo II Primary School located in Gikondo District of
Kigali Ville was recently built by GGP fund of US$ 85,660 on 30
September, 2001. Mburabuturo II Primary School got 12 classrooms
and a Director’s Office. The school got also furniture
consisting by 198 student desks, 15 T. Chairs, 14 tables and 2
desks for the office.
